Terms

Last updated 24 September 2026

These terms cover Just a Thought, the paid newsletter sold on simon.co.za. They're written to be read, not to trap you. If anything's unclear, ask.

1. Who you're buying from

Just a Thought is written by me, Simon Dingle, and sold by my company, Phantom Design (Pty) Ltd. The company is the seller, and is responsible for your purchase, delivering the newsletter, customer service and resolving any dispute. Paystack only processes the payment. Throughout these terms, "I" and "me" mean me and my company.

  • Seller: Phantom Design (Pty) Ltd, a private company
  • Registration number: 2015/222922/07
  • Registered in: South Africa
  • Directors: Simon Dingle
  • VAT number: 4700279153
  • Physical address (also where we accept service of legal documents): 31 Parliament Street, Cape Town, 8001, South Africa
  • Phone: +27 63 519 0471
  • Email: hello@simon.co.za
  • Website: https://simon.co.za

The company doesn't belong to any self-regulatory or accreditation body, or subscribe to any industry code of conduct or alternative dispute resolution code.

2. What you get

Just a Thought is a newsletter of short, original writing by me: one thought per issue, sent by email every week. It's paid-only; there's no free edition, no ads and no sponsored content. You're subscribing to issues sent while you're subscribed.

3. Delivery

  • Everything is delivered by email to the address you subscribe with. Nothing physical is shipped, so there are no delivery costs.
  • Straight after your first payment you'll get a welcome email with the latest issue, then each new issue as it's published.
  • Add hello@simon.co.za to your contacts, and check your spam folder if an issue doesn't arrive. If one's missing, tell me and I'll resend it.

4. Price and payment

  • R45 a month in South African rand, including VAT at 15%. There are no other fees. Need a tax invoice? Email me.
  • Payment is by card, through Paystack. If your card was issued outside South Africa, your bank converts the rand amount and may charge its own foreign transaction fee.
  • Your card is charged when you subscribe, then automatically on the same day each month. If you subscribe on the 29th, 30th or 31st, later charges fall on the 28th.
  • If a monthly charge fails (an expired card, for example), Paystack tries again on the next billing date, and issues keep coming in the meantime. You can update your card on the manage page.
  • If the price ever changes, I'll email you at least 30 days before you'd be charged the new price, so you can cancel first.

5. Duration and cancelling

The subscription runs month to month with no minimum term, and renews automatically until you cancel. You can cancel any time, without giving a reason, from the manage page, the Unsubscribe link in any issue, or by emailing me. Cancelling stops all future charges. The details are in refunds & cancellation.

6. Refunds and the 7-day cooling-off period

You can cancel within 7 days of first subscribing and get that first payment back in full. I offer this even though the cooling-off right in section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act may not strictly apply to newsletters. Refunds are paid within 30 days of cancelling at the latest. Other refunds are covered in refunds & cancellation.

7. Checking your order and your records

Paystack's checkout shows the amount and what you're paying for before you pay, and you can close it without paying. Paystack emails you a receipt for each payment. If you need a copy of your payment history, or have a question about a charge, email me.

8. Payment security

Card payments are handled entirely by Paystack, a PCI DSS-certified payment processor. Your card details go straight to them over an encrypted connection and never reach me or this site. The whole site is served over HTTPS.

9. The writing

Issues are for you to read. You're welcome to quote short passages with credit, but please don't republish or forward whole issues. Copyright stays with me. The writing is opinion, not financial, legal or investment advice.

10. If I stop

If I ever stop writing Just a Thought, I'll cancel every subscription so nobody is charged for issues that won't come, and refund any month that was paid for but not delivered.

11. Your information

How I handle your personal information is covered in the privacy policy.

12. Changes to these terms

If I change these terms in a way that affects you, I'll email subscribers beforehand. The date at the top shows the latest version.

13. Complaints and the law

If something's wrong, talk to me first at hello@simon.co.za. I'll reply within 2 business days and try to put it right. If we can't resolve it, you can complain to the National Consumer Commission. These terms are governed by South African law, and nothing in them limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act or the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act.
