Turn off mood messages notification in Skype

Skype 2.8 for Mac (and 4.1 for Windows) is a decent update to the application with some welcome new additions, including improved video quality, Skype Access wifi management and screen sharing. However, it also adds annoying notifications every time someone updates their mood message, or status.

Disabling the notifications isn’t obvious either. I expected the setting to be under the ‘Notifications’ area in the Skype options or preferences window – where it intuitively should be. But it isn’t.

To turn off these notifications on a Mac, double-click on the mood messages listing to open it up as a chat window. You can do this the next time it pops up as a notification, or find it in your chat history.

Make sure the drawer is open on the chat window (⌘T if it isn’t) and then right click on ‘Mood Messages’ in the drawer.

In the drop-down menu click on ‘Chat Notification Settings…’ and select the ‘Do not notify me’ radio button.

Mood messages be gone!

The rest should be self-explanatory. I’m not sure how this is done on a PC, but perhaps someone who does will add it to the comments…

I have been trying to figure out how to do this on Skype for Windows, with no luck at all. The above does not work. It's a horrible mis-feature and along with the malware that Skype is now installing without permission (“Browser Highlighter,” which is eBay spam ad insertion plus browser destabilization), it's causing me to ditch Skype. Bad company, bad business practices, bad product.

That didn't do the trick. New version?
This does work: preferences->advanced–>turn off 'Enable Mood Message Feed'.
