Irony is dead

So we broke the news to our parents this weekend: Roxanne and I are getting married. I guess now you know too :P

We decided to fly to the Seychelles this October and get married there. We’re going to stay at the Paradise Sun hotel on Praslin, which is the second largest island in the group, next to Mahe.

I’ve been to the Seychelles before and I prefer it to any other tropical island group – it’s not built up at all and is virtually unspoilt. The local people are amazing and it’s only a five hour flight from South Africa.

Gabriel flies for free and we’re trying to find him a baggy costume with floral print. If you know of any stores that stock said item in a size that would fit a (roughly) seven-kilogram future world leader, let us know.

It looks like a lot of our family and a few friends will be coming with us. So much for us eloping. Rad huh? I thought so. It’s going to be a huge party.

I spoke to Annelie at Oppikoppi today and her and Carel have hooked me up with a ticket for next weekend’s Wired festival. It’s going to rock severely – as do Annelie and Carel for being so good to me. There is a reason why Oppikoppi remains as my favourite musical happening of the annual calendar – the organisers are the shit. This will be my… sixteenth Oppikoppi in a row (if you include the smaller, Easter festivals). Shit… that’s a lot of rock n’ roll.

So it’ll all be in my podcast, post getting moered in the sun. Looks like I’ll be camping with my friend Hanu from The Narrow, who likes kicking me in the shins when he gets drunk, but is otherwise a civil fellow with a reserved temperament and an above-average interest in beer. I better start practising running into thorn trees and applying splints to my own limbs with my teeth in preparation.

Grant Nash called about an hour ago – I’m doing the 14:00-18:00 show on Tuks FM this weekend, so tune into 107.2FM if you’re in Gauteng or listen live at http://www.tuksfm.co.za/. Their live streaming uses a stupid ActiveX control and thus only works in Windows though. I have applied the necessary reprimand. You’d swear us poor Apple-and-Linux users were invisible.

I’m working on the XML coding to get my podcasts compatible with the iTunes directory, and things are looking good for the first feed, so brace your lumpy ass for something blazing its way down to your box by the end of the week (hold thumbs).

Oh, and irony is dead. Says I. Thank god – it was plaguing fashion something awful. ;)

Congratualtions! Really good news. How many major life changes can you squeeze into the smallest possible time frame...? Maybe you should buy a house...
  • Congrats to both you and Roxanne on the mariage thing. Hope your "honeymoon / party / festival" totally wh000ps ass in the Seychelles.

As for that ActiveX player you mentioned, you know, the one Tuks FM are using, the windows one. It's not just the Mac and Unix users that suffer because of it, it's also windows users who work in offices that have real security policies in place that suffer.

A real security policy would not allow tcp and udp ports 40123 through their firewall.

Looking forward to hearing you and some groovy tunes back on the radio this weekend.

A big up to you and Roxanne - excellent news!

A few friends visited Seychelles last year and said it rocks ....in a romantic way.

Yes, irony was the source of some horrible hair too.
Congratulations on the wedding, lad and lass.
We'll have bloody marys at the 'koppi to celebrate.
