I’m on Facebook

I have finally signed up for an account on Facebook after considering it for some time. So far I am tres impressed with the service.

I always thought that Facebook was like Myspace and that assumption kept me away from it, as I can not stand Myspace. Myspace is the ugliest thing on the Internet and I can’t be arsed to spend my time on dodgy pages with flashing text where some kid has listed their favourite bands.

Facebook, on the other hand, is a more rational service that just works. It has some really cool and useful functionality and you can get up and running with it rapidly.

I recommend it. As social networking services go, you’d be hard-pressed to find anything better online.

If you have a Facebook account, click here and add me as a friend.

    I’m also quite enjoying it!

Am busy doing a story on how social networking is affecting business (the whole “consumer trends drive business” idea) and it is amazing how corporations are moving in this direction. But in another vein – it is getting increasingly difficult to keep secrets from the rest of sociey – we are becoming transparent.

I also think, though, that we might just become nicer people (be it fake or real) because peer review is HUGE right now… like that website where you can rate your ex-boyfriend’s performance in bed! It’s kinda like Big Brother, actually, but we’re doing it to ourselves.

I’m moving to the mountains :)

I’m all for transparency. Imagine how much fun it would be if you knew how much all your colleagues (and managers) at work were paid? Something tells me remuneration would be way more fair…

Plus, when you’re playing open cards you display sincerity. And sincerity begets sincerity. So maybe those fuckers who were pretending to like you and don’t now because they know what you had for breakfast weren’t worth much to begin with.

But I mostly just like Facebook because it’s allowed me to find peeps who I’ve lost contact with. And that, if for nothing else, makes it a worthwhile exercise.
